Cap and Gown is an organization of current Stanford students and alumni, which honors and brings together supporters of leaders in service to the community. Founded in 1905, the thousands of members of Cap and Gown connect across generations around the world and form the oldest, continuous student group on campus.
Membership comes in three forms:
- Students are undergraduate and graduate students. They meet throughout the year to foster community among student leaders.
- Alumnae further foster community for women leaders at Stanford and beyond through several events and support the students through mentorship programs. Actives automatically become Cap and Gown alumnae upon graduation.
- Honoraries are recognized as strong contributors to the Cap and Gown community, the Stanford community, and the community at large. Each year the student members can select women to join as honoraries.
